Healthy dinner in less than 10 minutes
When I was recently speaking at the Mall of America, I brought a chef along with me to demonstrate how easy it is to cook a healthy dinner. Chef Theo Petron owns Dinnerwhere and he is dedicated to cooking healthy foods for people on the go or those that are looking to hire a chef for an event. Chef Theo has been spotted on many local news stations and is featured in a program called Cook What You Catch. Many people that were at the Mall of America presentation were excited to see that dinner d [...]

Dedicated Bikers
Well, I haven't blogged much lately but thought this would be a perfect blog after the 4th. A good friend of mine is involved with the Patriot Guard Riders that stand at attention at the funerals of fallen soldiers. I am always taken back by the effort of his journey to attend the funerals and the heartfelt feelings that he truly feels during each death experience, although there is no personal connection. I wanted to share this video with you to show you how amazing so many people are in [...]

Happy 4th of July!
The 4th of July offers a time to reflect and appreciate our country's indepencence and those that fought to make it so. I have such wonderful memories of celebrating this day with my family and have extended some of the traditions with my son. Fireworks have always been a big event along with a BBQ where all of our friends and family gather to eat, laugh, and play fun sports outside. I wish you a great day full of celebration and love. Get outside and enjoy the weather!

< [...]

Get a pedometer
If you are looking for a gadget that can offer a new level of motivation for your fitness program then a pedometer could be the answer. It's been proven that people who wear one tend to take 2,000 extra steps a day, which is equal to well over a mile! It becomes more encouraging to park further away in parking lots, take the stairs instead of the elevator, and go for walks during lunch. Get creative and find one that works for you!

—Wendie Pett, Fitness and Wellness Coach, www.w [...]

Wii Fit
Wii Fit - it's the latest craze and there has been quite a bit of hype regarding this "fitness" video game. I understand the concept and appreciate that the gaming industry is trying to get people off of their duffs, just not sure if this will truly change someone's outlook on fitness in the long run. I will be interested to hear testimonies from people using it. I feel that the balance board is a great idea and can be used not only to establish balance, but you could do some [...]

Prayers Please
Please keep families that were affected by the tornado north of Minneapolis in your prayers. This tornado hit on Sunday and literally destroyed/flattened over ten homes and damaged hundreds of others. My son and I were only 2 blocks from the path of destruction and we feel so blessed to be unharmed. We will be out assisting with clean up this weekend. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for these families that were left devastated.

Find Your Workout Time - Make the Most of T.V. Commercials
I'm not a big fan of watching T.V. although I have a few favorites that I like to catch when it makes sense, like Dancing with the Stars (don't laugh) and Boston Legal. The average American watches 23 hours a week of television. I counted and I think I'm only up to about 8 hours- told you I don't watch much. If you are one that gets in quite a bit of T.V. and find it difficult to get in your workout, then I have a suggestion. Tevo or record your favorite shows. Most one-hour pr [...]

Cravings - What They Really Mean
Have you ever wondered why you crave the foods that you do? Most cravings have an explanation. For instance, if you crave sugar (which many people do) your body may have a poor fuel-burning capacity. What you really require are minerals. Zinc and chromium are required for carb metabolism and could be especially low. How about salt? Typically, people that crave salt have weak adrenal gland function. Bread cravings are a sign of yeast problems which can have an emotional effect with mood swings, [...]

The Shocking Truth About What You Are Eating
The average person/family eats out 3-4 times a week due to busy schedules, laziness, and lack of knowing how to prepare meals. The calories that you may be consuming will shock you. I recently came across a book called Restaurant Confidential: The Shocking Truth About What You're Really Eating When You're Eating Out. Obviously, some of the better choices were Subway 6 gram of fat sandwiches and a Chicken Caesar from McDonalds with fat-free herb vinegarette dressing. But, check this out [...]

How can hiring a wellness coach assist you in reaching your goals? A wellness coach, such as myself, offers an individual program that is customized just for you so that success is more attainable and you reach your wellness goals - mentally, physically, and spiritually. Beware of "generic programs". We are all unique and may need a specific fitness routine and eating plan in order to see maximum results.
Tips for Healthy Wrists
If you are incorporating more push-ups in your workout routine then you are probably noticing great results in your chest, back, shoulders, and arms. Sometimes the more push-ups you add to your routine the more your wrists may become irritated due to the weight they are supporting. If this happens then try using push-up bars to relieve the stress on the wrists. Or, if you don't want to make the purchase then you can do what I do and perform push-ups on your fists to alleviate the bend in t [...]

First Female Winner - The Biggest Loser!
I'm sure most of you have heard of Ali Vincent by now. She is the first female to win The Biggest Loser competition and has been plastered on just about every news medium around the country. I LOVE the fact that Ali accomplished what she deserved. Her story and her heart-felt determination will prove to inspire many. It shows that hard work does pay off and you can do anything you set your heart and mind to do. During one of Ali's interviews, she makes a valid statement that I feel oth [...]

Coffee, Tea, or Let it Be?
I personally don't have a problem with a cup of either once a day, but it's debatable when you add 2,3, 4 or more. Coffee is a definite diuretic and you should drink one glass of water for every cup of coffee you drink to neutralize the effects. Experts say that caffeine has been linked to heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, risk of osteoporosis, and restless sleep. On a more positive note, both coffee and tea are loaded with antioxidants and of course they both have [...]

Armed for Summer
It's important to become armed for summer with the proper hydration, nutrition, and sun-block, but it's just as important to have "arms" for summer! Most women are very self-conscious about their arms and by doing my Visibly Fit program you will see very strong and lean arms in a short amount of time. I recently received this email and thought I would share it with you.

Hi Wendie,

I wanted to write to let you know that I'm 54 years old and my arms lo [...]

Exercise for Energy
I've been attending a seminar in central California for the last few days and it hasn't allowed much "down" time. Seminars or conferences can be very draining at times, especially if the event is compiled of long hours. My Visibly Fit exercises came in handy to give me the energy required to be alert and responsive. If I only had a 10-20 minute break then I would run up to my hotel room and get a few exercises into my sedentary, seminar day. In doing this, I was able to be &q [...]

April 1st and this is NO joke!

Did you know that for every pound you are overweight that it puts four to five pounds of pressure on your knees and your back. It's no wonder that one out of every two Americans suffer from knee and/or back pain. It's time to take your health seriously and alleviate the pressure. Get to the root of the issue instead of immediately resorting to any type of surgery or cortisone shot series. You'll be amazed at the relief that your loss gives to your overall well-being. One of my client [...]

7 Subtle Ways to Motivate Loved Ones to Exercise
One of the hardest things to hear and accept from a loved one are words of truth when it comes to your personal health. It's easier to have a total stranger, a doctor, or even a talk show host suggest healthy ideas that you should be doing and you're more likely to take heed. Why is that? Not quite sure, but there are some subtle ways to motivate your loved one without getting an eye-rolling look (or worse) in return.

1. Now that it is nice outside, go for a walk after dinne [...]

Catching a Positive Attitude

Do you know someone that is always upbeat and positive, so much so that you think "How is this possible?" Truth be told, it's actually much easier for most people to have a negative attitude than a positive one. It takes practice and discipline to leave the grumpy agitations to yourself instead of sharing it with those around you. Now, I'm not saying to keep your feelings trapped inside but it would be great practice to only have one sound board instead of many. Positive people [...]

I'm back from vacation

It's always good to return to doing what I love with even more energy than before. I believe everyone needs at least one vacation a year that allows for rest and rejuvenation.

I certainly hope everyone enjoyed Easter or Passover, whichever you celebrate.
