Resolution Solution

“I’m going to start working out at least four days a week.”
“I’m going on that new diet right after the holidays.”
“I’m going to free up more time for my family this year.”

Do any of these resolutions sound familiar – or maybe too familiar? Do they make their annual year-end rise to the surface, but sink nearly as quickly as the motivation wears off after the initial thought?

I have a solution to the resolutions that continually break down after only a few weeks or months. The answer is simple: change the way you think. Why do you want to “return” to a solution or "re" solve a problem with the same action steps? Instead of thinking about a solution – which is usually a quick fix – consider making a commitment! Determine in your heart that you will do it, and you will not fail. Use a journal to define, track, and show

accountability for your commitments and to visually see your goals accomplished for the “New You of the New Year.” Note: You can start the New You prior to January 1. You can start at any time...don't let the calendar dictate that date for you.

When it comes to fitness and nutritional commitments, set realistic goals that are truly attainable. If you recognize your strengths and weaknesses and are honest about them, your goals will be easier to reach because you will factor them in. For instance, consider committing yourself to working out at home by using books or videos or consuming delicious, satisfying foods you make at home to provide your body with all it needs. Not only can you save money, but you can inadvertently free up more time for yourself and your family!

It’s fun to watch how one commitment can offer a positive domino effect to change other areas in your life that may need assistance as well. One of the keys to a commitment is understanding and accepting that it’s a lifestyle change and not just a quick fix. Make this year “your year” for a domino effect of lifestyle commitments. Health...wealth...relationships...career...etc. Watch them all fall into place when you take the first steps in taking care of you!
